Since conceiving its C-Tech range, Sprint Filter has always focused on sports cars with the highest power ratio, which explains its decision to work on the Mercedes AMG A45S. The M139 engine, as mounted on the Mercedes A 45 AMG, CLA 45 AMG and GLA 45 AMG, develops 387 hp but can achieve as much as 421 hp at 6750 rpm and 500 Nm of torque in its more powerful S version, which also boasts one of the highest specific power values of all, at 211 hp/liter.
Taking such a high-performance engine, in which no detail has been left to chance by AMG, the Sprint Filter R&D Department has been able to achieve a significant increase in performance without making any modifications to the vehicle’s hardware or software. The product stands out for the fact it can be assembled in a matter of minutes and is made entirely of carbon, the fibre of which is the best available on the market, processed exclusively in the autoclave. The kit comprises an air box with inlet, split into two half-shells that contain an air filter designed specifically for this kit, a particularly high-resistance sleeve (6 PLY) and a support for the repositioning of the control unit, which affords better cooling of the electronic unit. The kit comprises two air filters with different characteristics: the P037 model of air filter, with 37-micron filter rating, for use in adverse weather and dusty areas, and the P08 F1-85 filter, with 85-micron filter rating, for road use where these is little fine dust or when seeking maximum performance, such as during Track Days.
Once the Sprint Filter C-Tech Kit is installed, the maximum engine power and maximum engine torque of the strictly standard Mercedes A45S AMG is boosted from 417.0 hp at 6721 rpm and 488.7 Nm at 5068 rpm to 424.9 hp at 6830 rpm and 496.9 Nm at 4620 rpm. The high-pressure fuel pump demonstrates a Duty Cycle increase of between 2% and 3%, with a maximum peak of 4%, thanks to the greater demand for fuel resulting from the higher charge pressure. This increase in charge pressure can be generated by boosting air intake capacity with a more permeable air filter and the regularization of intake air flow owing to the design of the new Sprint Filter C-Tech air box.
Sprint Filter technicians have also verified the efficiency of the kit for those who seek to further optimize performance by adjusting the electronics. Hence, modifications have been made in terms of the charge pressure, torque limiter, engine load management, ignition timing variation, and air/fuel ratio calibration. The gearbox has also been recalibrated in accordance with the new torque and power values. And the result is significant, with maximum power in excess of 500 hp. By reprogramming the electronics and mounting the Sprint Filter C-Tech kit, customers can achieve 505.1 hp at 6840 rpm and torque of 625.1 Nm at 4030 rpm.
