Milltek has completed testing a full turbo-back exhaust system for the new Audi A1 1.4 TFSi 185PS.

While the top-of-the-range Audi A1 is closely related to the SEAT Ibiza Cupra and Bocanegra 1.4 TSi and Polo GTi, the exhaust design still required some subtle changes to suit the slightly different aesthetics of the Audi variant.

As you can see from the photos, the tailpipes really add a bit of glamour to the rear of the car and let other drivers know the A1 in front is a little bit special. Not that they won’t be able to tell that from new sound coming from the enlarged twin tailpipes.

The Milltek exhaust system will be available in cat-back form (which does not require ECU tuning), or for those wishing to take full advantage of the engine’s tuning potential, a full turbo-back option featuring a large-bore downpipe and hi-flow sports catalyst. Milltek only uses the highest quality German HJS catalysts to ensure that the car will remain emission-legal and pass the UK MOT test – even with an ECU remap and a full exhaust system.

Through an extensive development process, Milltek engineers have been able to develop an exhaust that is rich in its depth of sound with an aggressive undertone but have also been able to ensure that the car’s everyday cruising integrity within the cabin is preserved intact.

Many of these vehicles have had the unique Milltek Sport Hi-Flow catalyst and down pipe assemblies developed for the maximum reduction in back-pressure – developed and tested through close co-operation with racing teams in series such as the Britsh Touring Car Championship and the Volkswagen Racing Cup.

Models such as the Mini Cooper and Cooper S are developed for worldwide distribution, rigorously tested on the rolling road and through many miles of subjective analysis. Milltek Sport look at a tailpipe styling, ease of fitment, vehicle specifications and power variances to deliver a quality, durable and, responsibly-engineered range of products to suit all environments.

Recent additions to the range include the BMW 130i and 1 M Coupe, Mazda RX-8, Mercedes SL55 AMG, Mercedes C63 AMG, Mini Cooper S Coupe and Countryman Cooper S All4, Range Rover Sport 3.0TDV6 and, Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring.

Milltek Sport doesn’t just develop systems for petrol-engined vehicles either; recently the Range Rover Evoque and VW/Audi 2.0 and 3.0 TDI systems were developed giving a useful performance increase and greatly improved ‘spool up’ of the engine due to the larger pipe diameters and reduced back pressure.

APR is pleased to present the ultimate engine control unit (ECU) upgrade for the 1.4T (EA211)!

APR’s ECU Upgrades are the value modification one can make to the 1.4T engine. The upgrades dramatically increase horsepower and torque, making for an exceptionally quicker and more exciting vehicle. This is made possible through APR’s optimization of the factory engine management system to take full advantage of the engine’s capabilities, without needing any end user adjustment. The software loads to the factory ECU through the OBD-II port, resulting in a clean and headache-free install.

APR ECU Options

APR’s ECU Upgrades support various octanes without the need for any hardware modifications. Each upgrade is fully compatible with an upgraded intake, catback exhaust, or other minor bolt on modifications.

The APR Stage I ECU Upgrade is the first step towards making more power! This simple upgrade requires no engine hardware modifications, and produces 175 HP with 249 FT-LBS of torque. Gains as high as 38 HP and 62 FT-LBS of torque are available throughout the power band, making the vehicle exceptionally quicker in all scenarios. For those looking for a more modest bump torque with the same peak horsepower figures, a lower output file is available. To get more power, the vehicle can be outfitted with an upgraded intake, catback exhaust, or other minor bolt on modifications without requiring any new modification to the ECU.

Tuning 101:

The 1.4T engine uses a Bosch MED17 ECU for engine management. Basically, it’s a computer that tells the engine how to operate. Tuning software, like the APR ECU Upgrade, tells the engine how to make more power. It does this by running more boost pressure, optimizing the cam shaft positions, adjusting the air/fuel ratio, advancing ignition timing, and more.

A Better Engine Management System:

The 1.4T’s ECU is incredible. Without the driver knowing otherwise, the ECU makes intelligent adjustments to the engine’s operations to keep it running smoothly. Unlike ECUs found in many other makes and models, when properly tuned, the ECU eliminates the need for custom tuning to maximize output, even when weather conditions change dramatically.

How APR Differs from the Competition:

The ECU is powerful, but extremely difficult to master. Without mastery, the ECU must be simplified, removing what makes it so desirable. The result is an incomplete product that often requires end user adjustment to maximize output in limited scenarios. On the contrary, APR’s Engineers spent years mastering the ECU to unlock its full potential. With complete access to the thousands of maps, tables and variables within, as well as a high-level understanding of how it works, APR’s Engineers were able to take advantage of everything the ECU has to offer. Power is maximized in nearly all scenarios, eliminating the need for end user adjustments. High performance operational modes are enabled and calibrated to deliver smooth daily driving, with a snappy and responsive throttle during moments of spirited driving. Lastly advanced high-output protection routines are enabled, allowing the ECU to make constant adjustments to airflow and fuel to cool and protect the engine, all without the driver knowing otherwise.

Acceleration Enhancements:
Beyond horsepower and torque enhancements, APR’s Calibration Engineers were able to increase the acceleration rate of the vehicle through other calibrations changes. Ignition delay is reduced resulting in a more responsive pedal without altering overall throttle sensitivity. Furthermore, throttle lag commonly noticed at slow speeds and while reapplying throttle has been reduced.

Speed Limiter:
APR’s ECU upgrade increases the vehicle’s top speed limiter for blistering sprints around the track or across the Autobahn without the speed limiter shutting down the fun.

Increased Fuel Economy:
APR’s Calibration Engineers paid close attention to several parameters directly related to fuel economy, especially while cruising at highway speeds. Depending on driving style and fuel quality, better miles per gallon may be achieved.

Unlike their competition, Pipercross have adopted multi layered foam technology for their air filters as opposed to cotton or paper. Why? Because foam has a larger capacity for filtration over cotton or paper. In road use terms this means that a Pipercross filter will flow stronger for longer and maintain peak power output of the vehicle over a cotton or paper counterpart. Whilst the cotton or paper filters begin to restrict airflow due to being thinly stretched over a V shaped wire frame the Pipercross with multi layer technology will continue to perform.
