Presenting a World first – the Eventuri Hybrid Airbox System, a breakthrough intake solution for the iconic BMW E46 M3. This system delivers the aggressive, race-inspired sound of the CSL Airbox with the seamless driveability and plug-and-play simplicity of a traditional intake. Until now, E46 M3 owners wanting the CSL airbox sound had to compromise on running the engine without the MAF sensor, often leading to expensive ECU conversions or remaps, where throttle response and driveability were negatively affected. Our Hybrid Airbox solves this problem and delivers the sound and power of a CSL airbox without the need for a remap, as well as the driveability and smooth performance delivery of a regular intake.

The Eventuri Difference

The airbox uses our Patented Venturi Carbon Fiber Housing which provides an aerodynamically efficient airflow path. Not just another cone filter with a heat shield but a unique design which invokes the Venturi affect and maintains laminar flow conditions to reduce the drag on the engine.

COMPLETE PACKAGE

We are providing all the parts required to install the airbox and get the car on the road. Usually with CSL style airboxes, there are additional parts required such as the ECU tune and breather pipes. Since our airbox uses the OEM MAF Sensor, there is no need for an aftermarket tune and we also provide the breather hoses. Here is a cost breakdown of additional parts required for CSL style airboxes. The only part required would be the SMG reservoir relocation kit.

The Main airbox section houses the 6 trumpets as well as the breather system connectors. Made from prepreg carbon fiber, the airbox has been designed to resonate under load and produce the sought after CSL sound. One of the challenges of the construction was to ensure the long-term reliability of the interface between the trumpets and the airbox. This was resolved by using mechanical fasteners and gaskets to ensure an airtight seal which would not be affected by heat cycles and vibrations. A similar method was also used for the breather adapters.

The trumpets have been made with a glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic. The injection molding process ensures accuracy while keeping the inside surfaces smooth for airflow. This was more advantageous over making each one in carbon fiber as we can ensure perfect form for each trumpet with an accuracy not attainable with carbon. We also added CNC machined stainless steel rings to the trumpets to ensure that they do not deform when the silicon couplers are tightened onto them.

The snorkel or lid of the airbox smoothly channels airflow from the intake to the trumpet area. This section also incorporates the MAF tube section where the OEM sensor is secured to a CNC machined MAF boss. The snorkel secures to the main airbox section using custom made screws which cut into plastic securing clips ensuring that they do not come loose under vibration.

The filter housing comprises of our bespoke generation 2 filter, stainless steel bracket and the carbon fiber housing. The carbon pod shrouds the reverse mounted filter and smoothly shapes the airflow down to the plenum. This is a key feature of the intake design where we have removed the tortuous flow path of the OEM airbox and therefore reduced the pressure loss through the whole system. This also ensures that the airflow is smooth when entering the MAF tube section of the airbox to allow the sensor to operate without errors.

PATENTED TECHNOLOGY

Our patented filter housings have a smooth reduction in cross sectional area as they shroud the filters and taper down to the tubing. This geometry invokes the Venturi effect where the airflow accelerates whilst maintaining laminar conditions. It can be thought of as a large velocity stack – below is a diagram to show the comparison between our patented design and a regular intake system. Our bespoke filters aid the airflow moving through the housings and allow for an even velocity profile as the airflow exits the housings. Further details can be read in the Technology and Filters pages.

100% Prepreg carbon fibre with a CNC machined collar – the air scoop forces ambient air directly into the filter opening. This scoop simply clicks into place in the front right hand brake duct and effectively saturates the mouth of the intake with cold air. It has been designed to take up half the height of the duct in order to allow airflow to still continue through the duct for the brakes. The scoop is so effective that even after a hard drive, the aluminium cowl at the mouth of the intake will still feel cold to touch.

DYNO TESTING

This intake has been independently dyno tested by Dream Automotive in the UK. Tests were done back to back against the stock airbox and several runs were taken with each configuration. The dyno results show a consistent gain throughout the RPM range which can be attributed to the smoother pathway through the intake and airbox to the throttle bodies. The performance gain translates on the road to increased part throttle and full throttle response with the car pulling much more eagerly to the redline.

Acceleration Time : 60-130mph Reduced By 0.12 seconds

*Some photos show our optional F90 M5 Intake system available separately.
Fitment for F90 M5, F92 M8, also fits with stock airboxes.

Presenting the perfect addition to our F90 M5 intake system to optimise the flow path all the way to the turbos. Our carbon inlets have a larger volume than the stock inlets by maintaining a larger diameter all the way to the turbos. The stock inlets narrow down immediately after the connection to the intake which creates a restriction especially at higher boost levels. We have alleviated this restriction and also designed the curvature to be as smooth as possible allowing the turbos to reach peak boost sooner.

During development we also tested inlets with larger openings and redesigned the intake to have an oversized connection to the inlets. However, tests showed no further benefit and so we proceeded with this version, which allows our current intake to be used without any modification while producing the best performance gains.

Fitment for the G01 X3 M40i and G02 X4 M40i

The BMW X3 M40i Eventuri intake has been developed to provide the turbo with a less restrictive flow path whilst maintaining low inlet temperatures.

In the M40i, the intake system’s proximity to the exhaust manifold poses a challenge, rapidly heating the engine bay. Elevated temperatures compromise engine performance, necessitating a solution that ensures minimal intake air temperatures (IATs). Our solution comprises of a fully sealed intake system, designed to counteract heat soak and prevent the turbo from drawing in heated air.

Moreover, our sealed airbox features a heat shield lined with gold reflective, effectively minimizing radiative heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To optimize airflow volume, we’ve maximized the airbox size, incorporating a recess to accommodate the strut brace seamlessly.

Replacing the stock convoluted intake tube, our design employs a prepreg carbon tube, boasting a much larger internal volume with an internal diameter of 109mm (4.3″) that seamlessly tapers down to match the turbo inlet, ensuring an uninterrupted airflow path. Complementing this design is a custom-made high-flow dry filter, rigorously tested for ISO-certified filtration performance and boasting a larger filtration area compared to the stock filter.

Eventuri Carbon Intake – BMW X5/X6M (G0X)

Introducing our F9X X5M, G09 XM intake. This intake is the result of extensive R&D and testing to improve on the flow path of the stock system. Our system is a complete redesign of the stock airboxes with the aim of reducing pressure loss while increasing the flow rate and keeping inlet temperatures low. With the stock cold air feeds at the front of the car and the turbo inlets facing the rear of the car, the airflow has to negotiate a 180 degrees turn through each airbox resulting in a flow restriction. To overcome this we have introduced an additional cold air feed from the scuttle panel, which results in a more direct flow path to the turbo inlets. The additional feeds allow the intake to have a higher flow rate whilst keeping IATs low and have an additional benefit of de-restricting the sound of the turbos. With the intake openings now facing the cabin, the turbo flutter and pressure release sounds are clearly audible, elevating the driving experience to another level.

The Eventuri Difference

The F9X X5M, G09 XM Eventuri system uses our Patented Carbon Fiber Housings with our Gen 2 bespoke filters, which provide an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the turbos. Not just another cone filter with a heat shield but a unique design which invokes the Venturi effect and maintains laminar flow conditions to reduce the drag on the turbo.

The Eventuri X5M intake system consists of a number of components engineered to perform a specific purpose and fabricated to the highest of standards. We use 100% pre-preg carbon fiber with no fibreglass which means we can achieve a smooth internal surface to maintain smoother airflow. Here are the details for each component and the design ethos behind them:

2 x Bespoke High Flow Dry Cone Filters

2 x Carbon Fiber Twin Air Ducts

Carbon Fiber Engine Cover

FILTER HOUSING ASSEMBLIES

The filter housings comprise of our bespoke generation 2 filters, aluminium inlet cowls and stainless steel brackets. The carbon pod shrouds the reverse mounted filter and smoothly shapes the airflow down to the OEM turbo inlets. This changes the flow path from the OEM airbox where airflow enters the base of the airbox, changes direction by 90 degrees to travel through the panel filter and then changes direction again by 90 degrees to move through the tube section. Our system is a lot more direct with airflow entering the front of the filter housing and and moving into the turbo inlet section without any abrupt direction changes. The result is a smoother path from the filter to the turbo and therefore it is able to function with less drag.

BESPOKE CONE FILTER

In order to achieve the highest flow rate possible we are using a filter element to make as much use of the space available in the engine bay as possible. The filter medium is ISO tested to ensure that filtration is in line with OEM standards and is also dry. The filter is constructed with our signature flow cones to aid in the Venturi housing principle.

PATENTED TECHNOLOGY

Our patented filter housing has a smooth reduction in cross sectional area as it shrouds the filter and tapers down to the tubing.

CARBON TWIN AIR DUCTS

The biggest restriction in the stock system is the location of the feed in comparison to the orientation of the turbo inlets. The feeds are at the front of the car and the turbo inlets face the rear of the car. We have designed the air ducts with an additional opening at the top and introduced a secondary feed where cold air is taken from the scuttle panel. By using both the the OEM air feeds and the additional air feeds, our system is able to flow with a higher rate as well as provide a less tortuous flow path to the turbos.

EPDM REAR FEEDS

To ensure that the intake is fully sealed, the secondary air inlets on the carbon ducts seal to these EPDM feeds which then route to the scuttle panel area. Once the hood is closed, the scuttle area is sealed off from the engine bay therefore these feeds are able to provide the intake with a supply of ambient air. A pre-cut centre section of the OEM hood seal is provided to allow space for these EPDM feeds to be installed.

CARBON ENGINE COVER

Since our filter housings have been designed for maximum volume, the OEM engine cover no longer fits into place. So we have produced a modified cover which finishes off the engine bay, covering the engine hardware for a finished aesthetic. We have allowed for gaps between the engine cover and the intakes so that the heat coming off the engine can easily dissipate rather than soak into the intake system.

The complete system comes together to provide an intake which improves on the stock airbox in performance, aesthetics and sound. Available in Gloss or Mate finish.

Performance Gain (RS3 with Hybrid Turbo): 14-20hp, 30-35ft-lb
Flow Rate increase at 24″ H2O : 42% increase over stock (Using Stock Flange)

Fitment for RS3 8V Gen 2 and TTRS 8S Left and Right hand drive. Finished in raw carbon – no clearcoat.

Optional Turbo flanges available for popular hybrid turbos.

Presenting a World First – an all carbon RS3/TTRS turbo inlet elbow. We have invested months of intense R&D in developing an inlet which leaves no room for compromise. VOLUME – FLOW QUALITY – TEMPERATURE are the 3 main design criteria which we sought to meet.

1) VOLUME : Inlet Diameters – Eventuri 103mm : Stock 72mm. Outlet Diameters – Eventuri 74mm : Stock 56.4mm. Clearly with significantly larger internal diameter sizes, the Eventuri elbow encapsulates a much larger internal volume which de-restricts the flow path to the turbo.

2) FLOW QUALITY : Having just a large internal volume is no good unless the flow path also allows for smooth airflow to the turbo. By using high temperature Prepreg Carbon Fiber we have managed to achieve a smooth internal surface. In contrast, the stock and other aftermarket elbows are all made from cast aluminium which end up with a rough internal surface. This coupled with the smooth curvature of the elbow results in a flow path which minimises turbulence.

3) TEMPERATURE : The final criteria was to minimise the conduction of heat into the airflow. The stock inlet is directly connected to the turbo and so immediately conducts heat as the turbo spools. Our system uses a machined flange which connects to the turbo and then a silicon coupler with an integrated thermal spacer to keep the carbon elbow from having direct contact with the turbo. This barrier coupled with the low through-thickness thermal conductivity of carbon fiber results in less heat being transferred to the airflow.

Flow Bench Testing

We conducted flow rate tests using a Superflow SF-1020 to measure the maximum flow rate possible at a pressure drop of 28” H2O. Tests were done on the same day in controlled conditions using the same test jig for each elbow. The results show how restrictive the stock elbow is, which we have managed to improve from 42% using the stock flange up to 58% in maximum possible flow rate using the larger GTX flange. Since the RHD version requires clearance for the brake fluid reservoir we added a scallop into the side which reduces the volume of the tube but still retains a significant increase in flow rate over stock with an increase of 52% over stock using the GTX Flange.

Dyno Testing

Our carbon elbow has been independently tested by reputable tuners globally. The first set of results are from BR Performance Netherlands who tested our system on a TTRS equipped with a TTE700 hybrid turbo. Tests were done on the same day back to back with the hood closed. They tested the stock airbox against our stage 3 intake with the stock elbow and then added our elbow for the comparison.

Dyno Results Summary:

Stock Airbox with Modified Stock Turbo Inlet for TTE700 = 576.5 HP

Eventuri Stage 3 Intake with Modified Stock Turbo Inlet for TTE700 = 606.5 HP

Eventuri Stage 3 Intake with Eventuri Turbo Inlet for TTE700 = 620.8 HP

Our Turbo Inlet provides a smooth flow path from the 103mm diameter inlet to the 74mm outlet to the turbo flange. We designed the shape with a continuous curvature and maximised the internal volume without affecting the airflow negatively. The inlet is finished in raw carbon so has no clear coat – which would not be able to withstand the heat generated from the turbo and exhaust manifold. The carbon construction allows us to keep the inside flow surface smooth which helps with reducing the surface friction and in turn allows airflow to move easier. We ensure strength and rigidity by maintaining a 2mm wall thickness throughout the part. Finally for added protection there is a heat reflective layer applied where the tube crosses the exhaust manifold. This reduces the radiant heat absorbed by the tube. The advantage of using carbon fiber over the traditionally used cast aluminium is mainly down to the thermal conductivity and the ability to keep the inside smooth. The table below summarises the advantages.

Minimising Heat Soak

When the RS3/TTRS accelerates, the turbo generates intense heat as it spools. Since the face of the turbo is directly connected to our CNC machined flange, we designed a silicon coupler to also act as a thermal barrier between the carbon tube and the metal flange. Internally the silicon has a spacer which separates the carbon and metal surfaces. This reduces the conductive heat transfer and therefore allows power to remain more constant since the inlet does not heat soak as quickly as the stock inlet does.

CNC Machined Turbo Flanges

Fitment: LCI and Pre-LCI F5X Mini Cooper S, JCW, Clubman S, Clubman JCW

The F56 MINI Eventuri intake system is another example of our “Complete System” principal. It is a sealed system which ensures that the turbo does not draw hot air from the engine bay but enhanced with a functional bonnet scoop which forces ambient air into the intake duct. This duct has a larger internal volume than the stock version and also draws air from the stock location above the radiator. The combination of a sealed system with an air scoop results in lower intake temperatures than the stock airbox and avoids heat soak which is a common issue especially on higher powered MINIs. To ensure the smoothest flow possible we use our Patented filter housing coupled with a CNC machined MAF tube to ensure the smoothest possible flow to the turbo.

The Eventuri Difference

The F56 MINI Eventuri system uses our Patented Carbon fibre Housing which provides an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the turbo. Not just another cone filter with a heat shield but a unique design which invokes the Venturi affect and maintains laminar flow conditions to reduce the drag on the turbo.

The MAF tube is CNC machined with tight tolerances to ensure the sensor works within the OEM parameters and therefore does not cause an engine warning code. Since the MAF tube is positioned near the exhaust manifold it is subject to high temperatures and can become heat soaked. To combat this we have insulated the tube with a neoprene rubber wrap which effectively protects the inside of the tube from high temperatures.

The OEM intake system draws in air from behind the front grill, above the radiator. The openings for the intake of ambient air are relatively small and therefore can lead to heat soak of the intake especially on a tuned Mini. The OEM bonnet scoop does not provide air directly to the intake and since the bonnet already has 2 cut-outs under the scoop, we decided to utilise this feature and redevelop the scoop. Our scoop is a direct replacement of the OEM part and clicks into place using the same fastening method. It features 2 inlet ramps which guide external air through the existing cut-outs on the bonnet and into the inlet duct (see below). As the car speeds up, more air is forced into the duct keeping inlet temperatures to a minimum and avoiding the heat soak issue. The scoop has a redesigned profile with a longer top surface to cover the openings which also provides a more aggressive look. Crafted from 100% prepreg carbon fibre, the scoop provides an incredible aesthetic to the vehicle. To further enhance the aesthetic feature – we used a V-shaped split weave with the carbon to give a symmetrical profile which works well as the scoop sits in the middle of the bonnet.

By making use of the existing openings in the bonnet – the ramps on the carbon scoop extend through and guide the airflow into the duct. Here is the underside of the bonnet with the scoop installed.

The OEM duct only draws air from behind the front grill and is very shallow over the slam panel. We have redesigned the duct to allow air in from the grill and also from the scoop. Furthermore, our duct has a much larger internal volume which allows the intake system to breath with less restriction. In order to protect against engine bay heat – the duct has a flexible rubber edging around the openings to the underside of the bonnet which seals to the bonnet once closed.
2) The scoop has 2 flow directing ramps which also act as a water barrier by forcing the water to fall down onto the base of the duct rather than moving straight to the filter area.

3) The duct has 2 openings to allow water to drain out – above the radiator and also a drain hole before the filter housing connection.

4) The face of the duct as it meets the filter housing has a wall on which the rubber edging is secured. This wall stops any build up of water from directly entering the filter and water is drained through the extra drain hole.

Fitment: LCI and Pre-LCI F5X Mini Cooper S, JCW, Clubman S, Clubman JCW

Available in Full Carbon Fiber and Plastic with Carbon scoop

The Eventuri F5X Mini Cooper intake system consists of a number of components engineered to perform a specific purpose and fabricated to the highest of standards. Here are the details for each component and the design ethos behind them:

Each intake system consists of:

Carbon Fibre Venturi Filter Housing

Bespoke High Flow Non-Woven Mesh, Dry Cone Filter

Carbon Fibre inlet Duct

Carbon Fibre Inlet Scoop

CNC Machined and insulated MAF Tube

Laser Cut Stainless Steel Bracket Work

High Quality Silicon Coupler

INTAKE HOUSING ASSEMBLY

The filter housing assembly comprises of our bespoke generation 2 filter, aluminium cowl, CNC machined MAF tube and the Carbon or Plastic pod itself. The pod shrouds the reverse mounted filter and smoothly shapes the airflow down to the intake tube. This smooth reduction in cross sectional area invokes the Venturi effect where the airflow accelerates whilst maintaining laminar conditions.

CARBON INTAKE SCOOP

It also has an expandable rubber edging around the opening to the filter housing which ensures a good seal to the filter as well as allowing movement with the engine.

Our 4.0TFSI V8 EA825 intake is a ground-up redesign and optimisation of the entire air inlet track. Every component including the lid has been developed to allow the V8 twin turbos to pull in air with less drag resulting in industry leading performance gains. The stock airbox lid itself creates a restriction on the size of the flow collector which feeds the inlets from the filters. So we increased the height of the central section of the lid to allow for a larger flow collector and larger cone filters to be used. This removes the inherent restriction and sets our intake apart from the rest of the field who by utilising the stock lid must also use a restricted collector and filtration media. The turbo inlets are up to 43% larger in cross sectional area than stock and are designed with an advanced dimpled inner surface to reduce frictional losses between the flow and the wall boundary. By allowing a “cushion” of air at the wall surface, airflow is able to move through the inlets at higher flow rates with reduced pressure loss. This allows the turbos to draw air with less resistance and therefore reduce the wastegate duty cycle resulting in higher overall performance.

The Eventuri 4.0TFSI V8 intake system consists of a number of components engineered to perform a specific purpose and fabricated to the highest of standards. We use 100% pre-preg carbon fiber with no fibreglass which means we can achieve a smooth internal surface to maintain smoother airflow. Here are the details for each component and the design ethos behind them:

Each intake system consists of:

Enlarged Carbon Fiber AIrbox Lid

Carbon Fiber Flow Collector

2 Thermoplastic Turbo Inlets with Dimpled Inner Surface

2 x Bespoke High Flow Dry Cone Filters

ENLARGED AIRBOX LID

The first constraint we had to overcome in order to dramatically increase the overall volume of the intake was the airbox lid. The stock lid leaves a shallow opening for the flow collector and also restricts the filtration medium being used. By creating a raised portion in the middle of the lid we are able to create more space for a larger flow collector and also for larger filters. The lid is made from prepreg carbon fibre and uses the same mounting points as the stock lid.

CARBON FLOW COLLECTOR & FILTERS

Directing the airflow from the filters to the turbo inlets is the flow collector. The stock one is constricted in size due to eth stock kid but having removed that restriction, we were able to dramatically increase the volume of our version. In addition, this also gave us the freedom to replace the stock filter with higher flowing cone filters which also have a larger total surface area.

TURBO INLETS

The biggest restriction in the stock system are the turbo inlets. The stock inlets not only are small in size but they also have 2 flexible sections. The flexible section immediately in front of the turbo creates turbulence as the engine moves under acceleration. To combat this, the stock inlets also have flow guides at the exit of the inlets but these also create a restriction. We removed the first flexible section which also meant that we could increase the internal volume. By increasing the inlet sizes, the turbos are able to pull in air with less restriction hence allowing for a quicker spool. In the following photos you can see the differences in the sizes.

We could have finalised the designs here however, we wanted to push the boundaries further and introduce a novel dimpled pattern to the inside surfaces. In theory, small dimples can increase the flow rate by reducing the frictional pressure losses through a tube. We have explained this in detail in our video for the G80 M3 intake which can be found HERE.

A lot of R&D went into simulating different sizes and shapes until we settled on an optimised version which demonstrated a higher flow rate through the inlets in comparison with a smooth surface. Applying such an intricate was only possible due to the advanced manufacturing technique we employed to make the inlets, where traditional methods would not have given the accuracy required. The dimples create an “air cushion” affect over the surface of the inlet which then allows the main body of air to “slip” with less friction through the body into the turbo. This results in a more even velocity profile in a dimpled tube with the net affect being a higher velocity for the same boundary conditions. Here are the CFD simulations showing the re-circulations in the dimples and the higher velocity in the dimpled tube. Further reading can be done from these scientific papers:
